African Climate and Development Initiative

Illustrated characters that help explain key messages

The brief

Extend the current ACDI visual identity by introducing a secondary colour palette, a display font, and an illustration style. Based on this create five character-illustrations that depict 5 key areas that ACDI focuses on.  These illustrations, colours, and fonts will be used to liven up the ACDI home page slider as well as heir fundraising brochure.

The project

We presented two fundraising campaign creative directions. The first option was an African iconography style with simplified characters and the second was a more realistic but minimalistic approached. ( See below)  We added some warmth and personality to the minimalistic illustrations by adding patterns and symbols to the character’s clothing.

The Result

Minimal lively culturally diverse illustrations with interesting patterns give the viewer an idea of the culture or mindset of the character. By illustrating the five key messages, the concepts are simplified and quick to grasp. A fundraising brochure including a map showing ACDI projects in Africa was based on these new graphic elements.
