Ask a friendly face
The team at the Centre for Environmental Rights had a powerful tool: Karabo, a friendly character created to help young activists ask legal questions about their environmental rights. But Karabo needed a digital presence that matched her purpose: approachable, simple, and focused on real connection.
That’s where we came in.
We designed a clean, accessible microsite that gives Karabo a permanent online home. The site lets users ask new questions, browse FAQs, and explore resources. Built on WordPress, it includes a thread system that allows CER’s legal team to respond within 48 hours and manage ongoing conversations. To personalise the experience, users sign up for an account to receive tailored answers from the team.
This project was about clarity and care: making sure those asking their first legal question felt supported, heard, and safe.

A site that scales beautifully
The microsite was designed to feel like a full-screen app on mobile. For pages with longer content, we used a more traditional scrolling layout. A simple two-column structure helps the site scale effectively on larger screens. To keep the experience lively and engaging, we included a few different poses for Karabo, including a light smile. Subtle element animations add a final layer of polish.
The result is a friendly, responsive space that adapts to users’ needs.
